2010 Volkswagen Routan SE RSE

VW calls the Routan the "Volkswagen of minivans," and it wears its corporate identity clearly on its exterior. The attractive front finish pairs a big VW logo with monochrome bumpers that give it more curb attraction than its platform-mates at Dodge or Chrysler. The inside is mostly a success, too, despite the fact that the details aren't as refined as most "natural" Volkswagen automobiles, with some plastics bobbing up quick. On the opposite hand, the tool panel is straightforward to learn, pleasingly styled, and engaging with a two-tone colour scheme.

Rough and unrefined, the base 3.8-liter pushrod V-6 engine that comes standard on the S and SE trim levels also struggles to get the 4,500-pound van moving with authority. At 197 horsepower, it's understandably overtaxed at anything but a leisurely pace. Paired with a balky base six-speed automatic, the Routan's performance in base trim is less than inspiring. The 4.0-liter V-6 engine that comes standard on the SEL trim is a 180-degree difference, however, with its 251-horsepower output and smooth power delivery through an upgraded six-speed automatic transmission more than up to the task. Surprisingly, the more powerful engine also delivers the better fuel economy ratings, scoring 17 mpg city and 25 mpg highway compared to the 3.8-liter engine's 16/23 mpg.

Standard features for all Routan minivans include an ingenious power-folding third-row seat, 144 cubic feet of storage with the seats stowed and removed, and sliding doors both left and right with windows that roll down. Volkswagen-tuned suspensions are available on all trim levels, which provides better handling than the Chrysler vehicles with which it shares a platform, a fact reflected in the vehicle's ride quality. Despite the "German tuned" suspension, the Routan feels more like a slightly more composed American minivan, with comfort at the fore. Seats are supportive and comfortable, with no complaints even on long trips.

Brakes, tires, bolt on parts etc... wear out but it’s a solid truck. That’s why you still see them on the roads and not many for sale. I would trust it to drive cross country. No lie.

The 2011 Ford Fusion is a midsize sedan available in S, SE, Sport and SEL trim levels. The base S comes standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, blind-spot mirrors, keyless entry, the MyKey system (limits top speed and audio volume), full power accessories, a trip computer, cruise control, air-conditioning, 60/40-split rear seats, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel and a four-speaker stereo with a CD player and an auxiliary audio jack. Other options (depending on trim) include rain-sensing wipers and HD radio. There are also several packages available (depending on trim) that include a Monochrome Appearance package that provides a body-color grille, a rear spoiler and 18-inch wheels. The highlights of the Luxury package include chrome exterior accents, premium leather upholstery (with contrasting stitching/piping), unique alloy wheels and illuminated front door sills. Reverse parking sensors are a stand-alone option on all models except the S.

After last year's extensive refresh, the Ford Fusion sees only detail changes involving standard features for 2011.
