How Much Cash Will My Junk Lexus RX Get Me? How Much My Junk Lexus RX Worth?

These vehicles, with a curb weight of around 3,900 to 4,905 pounds (based on the model you have), are worth a decent price in scrap metal if they're in junk condition. Regardless of the condition of your Lexus, there are other aspects of the vehicle that can affect its value.

Lexus RX (Models, Generations and History)

The first-generation RX was introduced in Japan as the Toyota Harrier in 1997; the SUV arrived in the United States shortly after in 1998 for the 1999 model year. Aside from Lexus, this was arguably the first true luxury crossover SUV available at any price, given that the RX was at least one segment smaller than any other luxury SUV on the market at the time.

The first-generation RX, dubbed the RX 300 in the United States, was powered by a revvy 3.0-liter, naturally aspirated V-6 producing 220 horsepower and a strong 222 lb-ft of torque via a four-speed automatic and a choice of front-wheel or all-wheel drive. In 2000, a mid-cycle refresh arrived, with updated colors, headlights, and interior options.

The second-generation RX debuted in 2003 for the 2004 model year, bringing with it a larger segment-hopping size and sleek design, as well as a larger 3.3-liter V-6 with 230 hp and 238 lb-ft of torque. The first-four-speed generation's automatic transmission was replaced by a five-speed automatic transmission, and it offered a wide range of optional then-advanced technology such as air suspension, adaptive front headlights, adaptive cruise control, and rain-sensing wipers.

The 2005 Lexus RX 400h hybrid was the first Lexus with a hybrid powertrain, debuting for the 2006 model year. A mild-hybrid system was added to a variant of the same 3.3-liter V-6, yielding a combined 268 hp. Lexus updated the second-generation RX in 2007 with a new 3.5-liter V-6 with 270 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque, followed by a second update in 2008 with a new front grille, door handles, paint options, and wheel designs.

Lexus launched the third-generation RX 350 in 2009, keeping the 3.5-liter V-6 but increasing output to 275 hp and 257 lb-ft and adding a sixth gear to the automatic transmission. The RX 450h hybrid now had a combined 295 horsepower and a better fuel economy of 28 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. The third-generation RX was larger than the previous model, as it sits squarely in the mid-size SUV segment that the compact first-gen sought to undercut.

The Lexus RX continued to gain technology, niceties, and upgrades as it grew from a well-appointed compact crossover to a comfortable two-row cruiser. As part of a 2013 refresh that included new grilles, colors, wheels, interior trim options, headlights, and taillights, a slightly more aggressive F Sport trim hit the streets. The F Sport package included a more aggressive front grille, package-specific interior colors and trim, and a new eight-speed automatic transmission.

The fourth-generation Lexus RX debuted for the 2016 model year. The RX 350 retains the same 3.5-liter V-6 engine, now boosted to 295 hp and 267 lb-ft via an eight-speed automatic transmission routed to either the front or all four wheels. For the new generation, the hybrid RX 450h increases combined power to 308 hp and adds a sportier F Sport trim. New technology includes adaptive suspension and an expanded package of available driver assistance features. The F Sport includes an additional Sport Plus driving mode, a F Sport steering wheel and paddle shifters, new wheels, and a more aggressive front fascia.

In terms of front fascia, this is the first RX to feature Lexus' distinctive and sometimes contentious Spindle Grille. With the new RX 350 L trim, it's also the first RX to offer three rows of seating. Lexus refreshed the RX lineup for 2019 and 2021, with grille refinements and tech updates.
